UPDATED: 63-year-old Heard man found

David Rickey McClain was last seen about 2:30 PM Tuesday

(Thursday Update -12:37 PM): Mr. McClain has been located. He was found deep in the woods behind his home by a horseback rescue team out of the West Georgia area. He and his dog were both found and are both expected to be fine. We will have more details later today.

 

(Franklin, GA) — As of this morning, local authorities have still been unable to locate a missing 63-year-old Centralhatchee man.

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office have corrected the man’s full name to be David Rickey McClain instead of David Reilly McClain as released yesterday.

The Heard Citizen also received information overnight that the last family member to see him yesterday may have been his sister instead of his wife.

Authorities also now believe the man was last seen at approximately 2:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon near the corner of Jackson Road and Five Notch Road.

Searches for the man continued into the night and authorities are meeting this morning to determine the best course of action.

Due to several medical conditions, it is believed Mr. McClain could not have traveled far on his own.

ORIGINAL (Tuesday evening 3/29 at 7:30 PM):

(Franklin, GA) — Local authorities have been searching for a missing elderly man since Tuesday afternoon at around 3:00 p.m.

63-year-old David Reilly McClain was last seen by his wife at his home near Centralhatchee north of Franklin.

According to a report from Sgt. Dan Boswell of the Heard County Sheriff’s Office, it is possible McClain may have been picked up by someone but that is unclear at this time.

The missing man is not very mobile on his own because of polio and other medical problems and he may be walking with a brace.

He was last seen at around 2:00 p.m. today.

Authorities are currently conducting a search of the wooded areas near his home at 800 Jackson Road just east of Centralhatchee.

McClain stands 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 100 pounds. He is believed to be wearing faded blue jeans, a green and white plaid shirt, and a camouflage hat.

He may also be accompanied by a Jack Russell terrier.

Anyone who has seen Mr. McClain or knows anything about his whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.
