Heard County Government declares State of Emergency

(Heard County, GA) — Heard County Chairman Lee Boone announced this afternoon the county is officially declaring a State of Emergency in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

HEARD COUNTY

 DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY 

WHEREAS, The Board of Commissioners, the Emergency Management Director, and the Sheriff are closely monitoring the COVID-19 virus updates as being reported by the State Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control, and WHEREAS, the World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 as a global pandemic; and WHEREAS, on March 13, 2020 President Donald Trump declared a national emergency in response to the COVID19; and WHEREAS, on March 14, 2020, Governor Brian Kemp declared a public health emergency due to COVID10; and 

WHEREAS, the Surgeon General of the United States has also declared the number of those affected is increasing exponentially in certain areas and containment has reached a critical stageand 

WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners, the Emergency Management Director, and the Sheriff approve this Declaration in the interest of the Health, Welfare and Public Safety of the citizens of Heard County; and NOW THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in me as Chairman of the Heard County Board of Commissioners and State law, IT IS HEREBY DECLARED that a local State of Emergency exists and shall continue in full force until this situation requiring this Declaration no longer exists. SO ORDERED, this 24th day of March, 2020. 

Executive Order Number 2020-001 

March 24, 2020 

Pursuant to the Heard County Declaration of Emergency on March 24, 2020; 

The following order is hereby implemented; 

All properties of Heard County are ordered to adhere to the CDC guidelines on social distancing of 6 feet and social gatherings of ten or more persons; 

All Heard County recreational facilities are closed to the public; 

The Heard County Arena is closed to the public; 

All citizens are prohibited from using any playground equipment on any County facility; 

Access to boat ramps for boating purposes is permissible; 

All commercial stores and restaurants in the unincorporated areas of Heard County are urged to limit the number of people in their stores at one time according to CDC guidelines, and dining areas should remain closed; 

Heard County Convenience Centers will remain open at this time; 

Any county ordinance otherwise prohibiting this Executive Order is temporarily suspended during this Declaration of Emergency. 

This Executive Order is effective at 8:00 AM on the 25th day of March, 2020.
