Heard County Teen Injured in Crash Dies

(Franklin, GA) — A Heard County High School senior has passed away as a result of injuries suffered in a Monday morning crash near Franklin.

17-year-old Lillian Evelyn Scott died at 8:31 p.m. at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus according to a statement released on social media by her family.

Lilly was the drum major for the Marching Braves band and her fight for life had captured not only the hearts of local citizens but communities throughout the state this week.

Other schools and especially marching bands were very supportive of Lilly and the Marching Braves this entire week offering prayers, gifts, and other tokens and symbols of hope and love.

“Lilly always lived life to its fullest and will forever be a beautiful 17-year-old girl,” said the Scott family.”Thank you everyone for your love and support at this time.”

The Monday morning crash involved two vehicles and occurred when Scott pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and Pea Ridge Road, about one mile south of the high school.

It was an extremely emotional week for the Brave Nation community as Lilly was honored at several sporting events and Saturday’s marching band competition in Tallapoosa.

Heard High principal Rodney Kay said Sunday evening that grief counselors will be available Monday for any students that are in need.

“There are no words to express the loss we have endured. Lilly has touched so many lives since entering Heard County High School just a few short years ago,” said Kay in a statement Sunday night.

“As everyone knows she was a leader in our band program, but she was so much more to so many people at Heard High School. Wherever Lilly has been she has left a mark. Heard High School wishes to express its deepest sympathy to the Scott family during this difficult time.”
