Middle School to host inaugural Heard County Brave Nation Awards Show

The Heard County Middle School and The Heard Citizen are excited to announce that they will be hosting the first ever Heard County Brave Nation Awards Show at the middle school gym on May 11, 2012 beginning at 6:00p.m.

The event will be the first of its kind and will feature awards presented to athletes, coaches, cheerleaders, and even team managers county-wide.

All levels of Heard County sports will be recognized including the recreation department, middle school, high school, cheerleading and Special Olympics.

In addition to the typical trophies that will be handed out for each sport, the event will also feature the first ever Heard Citizen “Bravy Awards” which will feature athletes from all levels competing against one another.

Some examples of these special honors (which are based loosely on the ESPY awards that are hosted each year by ESPN) will be awards for the  best male and female athletes, play of the year, team of the year, and best upset just to name a few.

Just like the ESPY’s several of the awards will be presented by some prominent local civic and community leaders.

Presenters which are already confirmed include Radio Personality Charles Jetmore of B92 Country, Braves Team Chaplain Neil Awbrey, Sheriff Ross Henry, Chamber of Commerce President Kathy Knowles, Water Authority Director Jimmy Knight, Ephesus Mayor Denny Rogers, retired school Superintendent Benjie Hyatt, Pastor Grady Woodruff, District #2 Commissioner Jacob Cammon, and Executive Director of the Development Authority Julie Pope.

The Voice of the Braves Mr. Don Heard will be the Master of Ceremonies and Mr. Greg Holcomb will be handling the disc jockey duties in what will be billed as a fun and entertaining show from start to finish.

The very talented Heard High graduate Ms. Lindsay Orr is also confirmed as a vocal entertainer for the evening.

Tickets for the event are $10 in advance and will also be available for $12 the night of the show. Tickets will not only include your entry to the show but also will include a hamburger/hot dog supper with all the fixings plus an opportunity to win some fabulous door prizes.

All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the HCMS athletic programs. Sponsors are needed for the event so if you would like to advertise your business and help support this awesome community event you may contact Coach Allen Sikes at (706)675-9247 or Russ Massa at (706)489-6397. All donations are tax deductible!

Nominated individual athletes will receive free entry to the show but all teams, coaches, and athletes are encouraged to attend. Any teams which would like to attend together are encouraged to contact Coach Sikes for a special team/group discount.

Nominations for the awards will be announced via HeardCitizen.com so stay tuned for further info in the coming weeks!
