No School in Heard County Friday; Boil Water Advisory still active

(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County School System has announced that due to continued problems associated with this morning’s severe weather and other contributing factors, all Heard County Schools will be closed Friday.

One of those factors was an afternoon announcement by the Heard County Water Authority that a ‘Boil Water Advisory’ is currently active due to the power outages.

According to a current outage map, about 46% of Carroll EMC customers in Heard County are still dealing with a total loss of power as of 3:20 PM.

Georgia Power reports that 607 out of 1,105 Heard customers are affected — a number unchanged from our last update this morning.

Out of 858 Coweta Fayette EMC customers in Heard County, 582 are affected.

The three Heard County elementary schools are all currently included in the outages.

The Heard County Head Start Program has also been cancelled for Friday.

Stay tuned to HeardCitizen.com for further updates as they come available. Read the entire statement from the Heard County School System below.

Message from Heard County School System

We will be closed tomorrow, Friday, October 30th. Factors for making this early decision:

1.  Still no power at the water treatment facility.

2.  Under a boil water advisory for the next few days.

3.  Vast residential power outages

4.  A couple of our schools still have no power and we have no timeline for reconnection.

5.  Advance notice for parents to make arrangements.

6.  Extracurricular activities for Heard High and Heard Middle will be allowed. Both of those campuses have power.

7.  And there’s a bonus! Everybody can come support the Lady Braves in Columbus!
