One man dies in Hwy 34 crash

(Franklin, GA) — A local man was killed in a Wednesday evening crash on HWY 34 East near Powers Crossroads in Heard County.

According to an early report released by Sgt. Katie Thompson of the Georgia State Patrol, 33-year-old John Allen Oliver, III of Franklin died after being involved in an original single vehicle accident that involved a second vehicle soon after.

Reports indicate that Oliver was driving a 1987 Chevy Sportvan that investigators believe left the highway, struck a tree, and returned to rest on the roadway before later being struck by the second vehicle.

The second vehicle was a blue Honda Accord driven by another 33-year-old male driver from Franklin.

The investigation is still ongoing into the cause of the crash and it has not been fully determined exactly which collision caused the fatality.

Funeral services for Mr. Oliver will take place Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. The family will receive friends Saturday evening 5:00-7:00 PM at McKoon.

HeardCitizen.com will have the full obituary posted tomorrow with more information about a fund being set up to aid the Oliver family with burial expenses. Oliver is survived by his wife and four young children.
