Cavs sweep Braves in hoops

(Franklin, GA) — The rival Callaway Cavaliers notched wins over both the Braves and Lady Braves at HCHS Tuesday night.

In boys’ action, the Braves battled back from a 10 point halftime deficit to take by opening the third quarter on a 16-1 run and led by as many as five before the visiting Cavs would pull away for the 45-37 win.

LeQuincy Shepherd led the team in scoring with 14 points. Tray Dunson finished the night with five while Alijah Huzzie and Ayden Cannon each tallied four. Khalil Cofield had a 3-point basket in the loss.

The Braves had six attempts from the foul line including Dunson’s 3-for-4. Freshman Orren Rowley had two in the first quarter.

The Braves (0-5, 0-2) will next meet South Paulding Thursday night at UWG in the Carrollton Christmas Tournament.

The Lady Braves (5-4, 1-1) trailed the Lady Cavs by one at the half before the visiting team would pull away for a 62-48 win.

Tori Caldwell led the Lady Braves with 16 including 10 in the first quarter. Morgan Kay also finished in double-digits with 12 including three from long range.

Rounding out the scoring were Hermonie Garza with eight, Haley Bennett with six, Sophia Long with five, and Lynsey Glover with two.

The Lady Braves are off until after Christmas when they will meet Bowdon on December 27 at the Haralson County Christmas Tournament.
