Cavs take game one of big series

(Franklin, GA) — A big first inning by the visiting Callaway Cavaliers put the Braves in too big of a hole to come back from Tuesday afternoon in the first game of a three game series for the Region 5-AA baseball title.

The Cavs put eight runs on the board in the top of the first and went on to win game one 11-1 in five innings. Of the eight runs allowed in that first by starter Auston Wilson, only one was earned.

Chandler Lott pitched well for Callaway tossing all five innings while only allowing five hits and striking out five.

Despite the tough loss, the Braves can still claim the region title but will need to sweep the Cavaliers on the road in a doubleheader this Friday.

“If we can make routine plays in the first we don’t give up any runs and it’s a much different outcome — but that didn’t happen,” said coach Trent Bianco after the game.

“You have to tip your hats to them — they bloodied our noses a little bit — but I know our guys will come back out on Friday and be ready to play. That’s what good teams do.”

Friday’s doubleheader will begin with a game one first pitch at 4:30 PM at Callaway High School in Lagrange.

The winner of the series will earn the Region 5-AA Championship and the No. 1 seed at the state tourney while the loser will be the No. 2 seed at state.
