Commissioners Approve Purchase Of New Fire Truck

(Franklin/Times-Journal) — Heard County Commissioners met on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at 6:30 PM in the courthouse in Franklin.

Under new business, Chief Steve Wirth, EMS Director for Heard County requested the board to approve the purchase of a new fire truck along with the needed equipment.

On October 30, 2016, one of the 10 fire trucks used in rotation was lost in a 40-acre brush fire as well as the equipment.

An insurance settlement on the loss was in the amount of $82,426.25 for the fire truck and $3,7102.58 for the equipment.

Wirth stated that the new truck has an 1830-gallon tank that would be used as a first response out truck and would be used at the Frolona Fire Station #7 where there are less water hydrants.

The board approved $265,750.00 for the purchase of 2017 Freightliner Fire truck from Fire Line paid for out of SPLOST dollars. Approval was given in the amount of $52,000.00 to replace equipment that was lost due to fire to be paid with SPLOST dollars. The new truck will arrive mid December.

The board approved to reappoint Jerry Nixon, Chairman of the Board of Tax Assessors for another term.

The board approved a change in policy to be in compliance with New Fair Labor Standards Act.

There was no old business, no public comments, the board went into executive session for personal issues. The meeting was adjourned.
