(Franklin, GA) — Republican voters in the 3rd district have chosen former West Point Mayor Drew Ferguson as their nominee to replace retiring GOP Rep. Lynn Westmoreland.

In the overall district, Ferguson accrued 22,813 votes (53.93%) to Crane’s 19,490. Heard County voters favored Ferguson 355-257. Crane won Coweta and Fayette Counties while voters in the other 11 counties of the district selected Ferguson.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us because it’s going to be a competitive race in the 3rd district,” Ferguson said Tuesday. “We’re not going to slow down one bit.”

Ferguson will now face Democratic candidate Angela Pendley of Grantville in the November general election.

“Although the numbers did not fall in our favor, Tracey and I are humbled by the love and support we’ve received during this campaign,” said Mike Crane in a statement late Tuesday.

“It has been an incredible journey spreading the message of freedom and liberty throughout our great district and we will always stand for those values. Tracey and I want to congratulate Drew and his family on a hard fought campaign and we wish him the best as our next Congressman.”
