Former Brave named to Rimington Trophy Watch List

(Huntington, WV) — Marshall University redshirt sophomore center and former Heard County Brave lineman Levi Brown has been named to the Rimington Trophy’s 2017 Spring Watch List, the award’s committee announced this week.

The Rimington Trophy has been presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A college football.

Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.9 million for the cystic fibrosis community.

Brown is one of 63 centers nationwide named to the list.

The award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $130 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.

Dave Rimington, the award’s namesake, was a consensus first-team All-American center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982.

Rimington became the Outland Trophy’s only double winner as the nation’s finest college interior lineman.

He was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team in 2016, as voted by the league’s 13 head coaches.

Brown was one of a league-high four Marshall players on the All-Freshman team, which included only five offensive linemen across the conference. He was the only center among those five to be recognized.

Brown started 11 consecutive games at center in 2016 and was labeled as “tough as heck” by his position coach and “willing to play through pain and injuries.”

He was a first team all-state selection for the Braves by The Associated Press and Atlanta Journal and Constitution among a number of other Region 5-AA honors.
