WHAT: GHSA State Championship Tournament featuring the top 8 teams from each Classification in Georgia vying for 8 State Titles

WHEN: Thursday-Saturday (October 25-27)

OPENING GAME: The Lady Braves will battle the Dodge County Indians @ 3:00 PM on Thursday, Oct. 25 (Field #2)

WHERE: South Commons Softball Complex

RECORDS: Lady Braves (23-7, 12-0), Indians (28-4, 12-0)

SEEDINGS: Lady Braves #1 in Region 5-AA, Indians #1 in Region 3-AA

HOW THEY GOT HERE: The Lady Braves won Region 5-AA and defeated Union County and Dade County in rounds one and two. The Indians won Region 3-AA and defeated Bacon County and Brooks County in rounds one and two.

AT STAKE FOR THE WINNER: The winner of Heard Co./Dodge Co. game at 3:00 PM Thursday afternoon will advance to play at 9:00 PM Thursday evening (Field #5) vs. the winner between Harlem (#1 Seed Region 4-AA) and Banks County (#2 Seed Region 8-AA). The winner of that 9:00 PM match-up will advance to the winner’s bracket final Friday evening at 6:00 PM on Field #3. Potential opponents in that game would be Jeff Davis (#1 seed Region 2-AA), Social Circle (#1 seed Region 8-AA), Vidalia (#2 seed Region 2-AA), and Monticello (#3 seed Region 8-AA). The Class AA State Championship game is scheduled for 12:00 PM Saturday afternoon on Field #1.

AT STAKE FOR THE LOSER: The loser of Heard-Dodge will still have a chance in the double elimination tournament but will face a difficult road to the title game needing to win four straight loser’s bracket games all on Friday at 12:00 PM, 4:00 PM, 8:00 PM, and 10:00 PM.

LAST YEAR: Lady Braves lost to eventual State Champion Rockmart in round two of the playoffs. Dodge County finished at No. 4 in the state after dropping its opening tournament game to Rockmart and falling to Banks County in the loser’s bracket at Columbus.

COLORS: Lady Braves (Maroon and Gray), Indians (Red and White)

WEATHER: Rain could be a factor in tournament scheduling with a 70% chance of rain Thursday-Friday and high temperatures in the low 60’s. Saturday is expected to feature partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 60’s and only a 10% chance of rain.
