(Franklin, GA) — The juggernaut Heard County Middle School Lady Braves softball team swept the Mt. Zion Eagles on the road in a doubleheader Wednesday to complete a perfect 10-0 regular season.

Thanks to a prolific offense, the team was rarely challenged during the season and are heavy favorites heading in to next week’s Small School Division Playoffs.

The Lady Braves will host a semi-final game at HCMS on Wednesday and with a win would host the West Georgia Middle School Small School Championship game on Thursday.

Several Lady Braves have recorded outstanding offensive numbers over the course of the 10 game winning streak.

Hannah Wright is leading the team in batting average with an astounding .783 average to go along with nine doubles and five walks.

MacKenzie Hart is not to far behind in average at .741 and leads the team in RBI’s with 17 and triples with two.

Janiyah Strong has led the power surge with three homers and three doubles to go along with her 15 RBI’s.

Chasity Kates leads the team in steals with 13 and also sports a .600 batting average.

Other .400 or higher bats (min. 20 plate appearances) include Emma Helton (.684), Abigail Lathrop (.611), Morgan Smith (.520), Chaple Butler (.478), and Aubrey Ussery (.438). Helton also leads the team in walks with 10.

On the mound for the Lady Braves, it has been Brianna Hill carrying the heaviest workload along with Makayla Giles and Emily Head. Hill tossed 26 innings this season with an ERA of 3.12 and 14 strikeouts. Emily Head pitched seven innings without allowing an earned run all season.

Head coach Gavin Porter says the large group of talented eighth graders and a solid pitching staff have been the keys to the strong run.

“We just have a great group of eighth graders this year. We have five that have play both JV and middle this year and four that play just middle — they have all played well this season. We also have some really strong sixth and seventh graders that have really stepped up,” says Porter.

“Hill, Giles, and Head have all pitched really well for us this season and it has been nice not to have to rely solely on one pitcher.”

Assistant coaches for the undefeated middle Lady Braves are Tyler Spradlin and Kelly Hadley.

The Lady Braves will host a semifinal game at HCMS on Wednesday (TBD) and with a win would advance to host the championship game on Thursday (TBD).
