HCMS Lady Braves poised for title run after undefeated regular season

(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County Middle School girl’s basketball team closed out an undefeated season this week after knocking off Mt. Zion on the road by a final score of 40-21.

The win pushed the Lady Braves record to 12-0 heading into next week’s West Georgia Middle School Championship tournament at Villa Rica Middle School.

After being held scoreless in the first quarter standout seventh grader Jayden Boykin exploded for 24 over the last three periods to lead all scorers. Jasmine Owens also had a big night scoring eight for Coach Shaqueri Talmadge’s squad.

Brooklyn Curbow

The Lady Braves defeated Bay Springs on the road last Thursday 47-30. Owens led the scoring in that game with 14 while Boykin scored 13.

Other top scorers included Amaya Hammel with seven and Brooklyn Curbow with six points.

Coach Talmadge is very proud of the way her team has worked and excelled this season.

“I’m extremely proud of the progress my team has made this season. These girls have work so hard to get where they’re at,” says Talmadge.

“We have achieved one goal and that was to go undefeated in regular season. We aren’t finish just yet. Next week we have to take care of business and bring this championship home to Heard County.”

The top-seeded Lady Braves will open this week’s middle school championship tourney at Villa Rica with a semifinal match-up Tuesday at 6:15 PM.

The Braves face the winner of Monday’s 4/5 seed game between Bowdon and Temple.

With a win, the squad will advance to Thursday’s Championship game at 5:00 PM where they would take on either No. 2 Villa Rica or No. 3 Mt. Zion.
