Heard County Special Olympic Athletes Shine at State Winter Games

(Marietta, GA) — Athletes from around the state were in Cobb County last weekend for the Special Olympics Indoor Winter Games.

More than 1500 athletes and 100 Unified Partners competed in artistic gymnastics, bowling, floor hockey, basketball, powerlifting and roller skating with over 500 coaches guiding them.

Heard County Special Olympic athletes and their partners competed in bowling and powerlifting competitions.

In the team bowling competition, the team of Blake Timmons and Tim Brown along with partners J.D. Blakely and Zane Mitchell were the Silver Medal Champions in their division.

The team of Nigel Echols and Richard Grizzard along with their partners Oren Richards and Gage Cannon also represented well by winning the Bronze Medal for their division.

Mikayla Dockery and Shinese Turman competed in singles bowling. Mikayla had a fourth place finish and Shinese brought home the Gold!

In Powerlifting, Heard High freshman Damian Wiley placed second overall winning a Silver Medal in the State 16U category in his first year of competition, while junior Anthony Brand won the overall First Place title and a Gold Medal in the Southeast Region in the 18U 175-190 pound weight class!
