Lady Braves bounce back with 20-point win over Rebels

(Tallapoosa, GA) — The Lady Braves backed back nicely with a 58-38 region win at Haralson County Saturday night in Tallapoosa.

The Lady Braves built a 16 point halftime lead behind strong first halves from sophomore Jasmine Owens and junior Zekylah Boyd who each notched 10 first half points.

Owens would lead the way with 16 for the game while freshman Jayden Boykin finished her night with 13 points.

Hermonie Garza finished the game with 10 and senior Sophia Barron scored seven. Shyann Kelley had two points off the bench.

Prior to the varsity matchup, Coach Shaqueri Talmadge and the junior varsity Lady Braves dropped a hard-fought game 29-27 to the JV Rebels.

Camille Gaskins led the jv squad with eight points while Carmaya Swint finished with seven.

J’Money Lewis had two 3-point baskets and freshman Natalie Schneider also hit one from downtown. Freshman Callie Senn scored two points.

Eighth graders Mackenlie Lasseter and Hailey Toney were called up from the middle school team for the game.

Coach Helen Akins and the varsity girls will be back to the road once again this Tuesday night when they travel to Temple for another Region 5-AA contest at 6:000 PM to be immediately followed by the varsity boys at 7:30 PM.
