Lady Braves score big rivalry road win

(Lagrange, GA) — The Lady Braves snapped a five game losing streak to rival Callaway with a 45-37 win in Lagrange Tuesday night to move to 2-0 in Region 5-AA play on the season.

Junior Sophia Long led the scoring for the Lady Braves with 14 while also hauling down six rebounds. The Lady Braves led after every quarter in route to the eight point win.

Senior Tori Caldwell and freshman Jasmine Owens each scored eight points while sophomore Zekylah “Z” Boyd finished the game with six. Senior Morgan Kay scored five points and led the way in assists with six while junior Hermonie Garza had four points and three assists.

It was the first win at Callaway for the Lady Braves since 2016 and an important one after dropping the road game the last two seasons both by two points and both in overtime.

In boys’ action, the young Braves fell to an athletic Cavalier squad by a final score off 77-34.

Ayden Cannon was the top scorer for the Braves with 13 while Isaiah O’Neal also finished with double digits with 10.

Freshman RoRo Edmondson drained two 3-point baskets to finish with six points. Chance Curbow had three points and Tydarius Smith finished with two.

The Braves will return to the home court this Friday night versus Villa Rica at 6:00 PM and will travel to Gainesville Saturday to battle Lakeview at 2:30 PM.

The Lady Braves are off through Christmas and will next play in the Ola Christmas Showcase at Ola High School in McDonough versus South Atlanta at 11:00 AM on December 27.
