(Franklin, GA) — Editors and staff of the three primary media sources for Heard County were recently honored by the James Stewart Chapter, NSDAR, for their coverage of the NSDAR and other local events in the county.

On Thursday, December 5, 2019, members of the chapter met at the local newspaper office.

Along with Lee Boone, Chairman, Heard County Commission, chapter members presented a Certificate of Award for Excellence in Local Media Coverage to the Time-Journal, and The News and Banner for their outstanding work in the community.

The Public Relations Committee for the chapter expressed their appreciation for assisting the chapter in promoting the national society and its goals of Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism over the years.

With their help, the chapter will be submitting articles totaling over 3000 column inches outlining their work during 2019.

The chapter is looking forward to working with these dedicated individuals in 2020 as they introduce new programs available for county veterans, expand their work with our youth, and continue to seek and honor county residents for their unselfish gifts of their time and talents.

Chapter members will be completing year-end reports during the month of January and are proud to be representing Heard County’s programs and accomplishments at their upcoming State Conference in March.

The NSDAR is a service organization open to any woman 18 years and older that can prove direct lineal descent of a patriot that fought or provided aid during the Revolutionary War.

Your local chapter meets seven times a year and hold their meetings on Saturday mornings to accommodate working women in our community.

Make one of your New Years’ resolution to come to a meeting to meet some of the women and learn about our history and how you can make a difference.

Please email us at or call and speak to a chapter representative at (770) 856-3354.
