Man hospitalized after jumping off river bridge

(Franklin, GA) — Local authorities were called to the scene of an attempted suicide Wednesday afternoon after a local male jumped from the P.T. McCutchen, Sr. Bridge into the river in downtown Franklin.

According to a report from Franklin Police Chief Kevin Hannah responded to several 911 reports at around 5:00 PM regarding an unidentified male who had jumped into the Chattahoochee River from the south side of the oldest downtown river bridge typically referred to by locals as the “Chattahoochee Bridge.”

When authorities arrived, the man was already exiting the river on the downtown side and appeared largely uninjured physically.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the 28-year-old male was suicidal.

Due to the nature of the incident, authorities are not releasing the name of the individual but say the man was transported by Heard County EMS to a local hospital for further evaluation.
