Middle Braves 2-0 after win over Tigers

(Temple, GA) — The HCMS boys basketball team moved to 2-0 on the young season Thursday with a 43-26 at Temple.

A staunch defensive effort was key for the Braves as they allowed the Tigers to score just five first half points.

The Braves led 23-5 at the half and 37-13 after three quarters before some of the younger guys saw significant minutes in the fourth quarter.

Jonathan Echols led the Braves with 20 points Thursday

Jonathan Echols again led the team in scoring with 20 points while Antwan Carter scored six points all coming in the first half.

Landon McLendon had four points and sixth grader Bradford Hadley scored his first ever middle school points on a long 3-point bank shot in the first half.

L.J. Green and Sammy Holiday had nice efforts on the defensive end of the floor to keep the Tiger offense at bay.

In girls’ action, the Lady Braves fell by a final score of 23-13 to break a near two-year long winning streak.

The Lady Braves were short-handed without one starter due to illness and Jayden Boykin was hobbled by an ankle injury.

Carmaya Swint led the way for the Lady Braves with seven points.

Both teams will be back in action next Monday when they travel to Carrollton to take on the Trojans.

The girls will tip it off at 5:00 PM followed immediately by the boys at 6:30 PM.

The squads will travel to Mt. Zion on Thursday before returning to HCMS for the home openers versus Bowdon on Monday, December 16.
