(Roopville, GA) — The Heard County Middle School baseball team opened the season with an 11-5 win at Holy Ground Monday afternoon.

Jake Harrod started the game on the mound and pitched four innings, striking out eight batters and allowing only two hits and two walks.

Dale Thornhill closed out the game striking out three of the four batters he faced.

At the plate, Thornhill and Peyton Caldwell each had two hits, and Chunky Hannah scored three runs to go along with three stolen bases.

“This is a fun bunch of guys that enjoy the game,” said coach Heath Horn.

“We have a good mixture of all three grades — not just a 8th grade team. We only have three 8th graders.”

The team travels to Bowdon on Thursday for a big division game versus the Red Devils. Click here to see the full 2015 Heard Middle baseball schedule.
