Coach Melissa Nichol talks over game strategy with the Lady Braves

(Temple, GA) — The HCMS Lady Braves scored a nice victory in round one of the West Georgia Middle School basketball playoffs at Temple Tuesday night winning 48-30.

The Lady Braves opened the game on an 8-0 run before the Tigers stormed back to tie the game at 8-8 after the first quarter. An 8-2 run in the second quarter gave the Lady Braves a six point lead at the half.

Coach Melissa Nichol’s squad led 31-21 after three before pulling away in the fourth. Tori Caldwell led the scoring for the Lady Braves with 16 and Hermonie Garza wasn’t far behind with 14.

Other scorers included Katelyn Jiles with five, Brittany Graley with four, and Morgan Kay with three. Jessica Harris, Kaylie Holliday, and Betty Covington each had two.

The win earns the Lady Braves a spot in the semi-finals today where they will meet the top-seeded Bowdon Middle Red Devilettes.

The game will tip at 6:30 p.m. at Temple Middle School. The winner of today’s game will meet the winner of the other semi-final in the championship game on Friday.
