Mr. Bob Lane

IMG_2128Mr. Robert Newton Lane, Sr., age 88 of Franklin, Georgia, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 6, 2016.

Mr. Lane was born in Heard County, Georgia on October 18, 1927, the son of the late, Newtie Leola Moore Lane and Thomas Brewer Lane, Sr.

After graduating from Heard County High School he opened the Lane Dairy Farms. After marrying the love of his life Carolyn Hunter he went to work at the American Can Company from which he retired after 30 years of loyal service.

During this time he and Carolyn began their family and Bob became involved in their education as a 24 year veteran of the Heard County Board of Education. He, along with his fellow board members was instrumental in greatly improving the quality of education for the children of Heard County.

Always a hard worker, Bob also served for eight years as the District 1 County Commissioner. He was devoted to the churches that he and his family were members of. He served as a steward at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church when his family was young, and then became an active member of Franklin First Baptist Church until the present.

After his retirement he continued his love of cattle farming. Other than his Lord, his family was utmost in his thoughts. He was very close to his two sons, Robby and Mark, and the granddaughters were especially dear to him, but most of all he thought that his beloved wife was the grandest on earth. Her great devotion to him in his later years only endeared her more to his already highest of admiration.

Those who knew Mr. Bob would tell you that he was a quiet man who showed love and respect to all he came in contact with. His gentle spirit was a testament to his great character, and taught us all what a Godly man should be. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn Lane of Franklin, GA.; two sons, Robby Lane (Lib) of Snellville, GA., and Mark Lane (Beth) of Gainesville, GA.; sister Doris Forbes of Franklin GA.; brother, Johnny Lane (Mary) also of Franklin, GA.; and four adoring granddaughters.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Cooper; and brother, Tom Lane.

Funeral services for Mr. Lane will be conducted on Saturday, January 9, 2016, 2:00 p.m., from the Franklin First Baptist Church.

Mr. Lane will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to service time. The interment will follow in the Franklin City Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the funeral home Friday evening, January 8, 2016 from 6-8 p.m.
