Mr. Burl Holloway

Mr. Burl Holloway, age 73, of Franklin passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at his home.

Funeral services for Mr. Holloway will be conducted Friday, October 14, 2016 at 2:00 PM from New Hope Baptist Church (325 New Hope Road) with the Revs. Donald Spradlin and Mark Shelnutt officiating.

Mr. Holloway’s body will lie in state beginning 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Heard County Memorial Gardens.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Thursday evening from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Mr. Holloway was born July 4, 1943 in the Waresville community to the late James Robert Holloway and Leola Wright Holloway.

Before his retirement, he dedicated many years of loyal service to the citizens of Heard County.

During his career in public service he served as a fireman, deputy sheriff, and Chief of Police for the City of Franklin. He will be remembered for his dry wit and infectious smile that could help to relieve tension in an emergency.

He was a dedicated member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as the song leader for many years. He had a love for music that showed when he attended gospel singings. He went to as many as he could in the local area.

In his spare time he loved to go out to eat and have food and fellowship with family and friends. He also enjoyed cooking delicious cakes and pies as gifts. Times spent in the mountains with his loving wife, Janice; daughter, Tina; and his sisters were especially precious to him.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Arrington Holloway of Franklin; his daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Timmy Hamil of Franklin; five sisters, Mary Alsabrook of Franklin, Jimmie Rowe (Leroy) of Franklin, Virginia Gladney (Bobby) of Centralhatchee, Thelma Hardy of LaGrange, and Ann Furgerson of LaGrange; two brothers, Robert Holloway (Peggy) of Franklin, and Roy Holloway (Dora) of Roanoke; and a host of other relatives and friends.
