Mr. George Hester

Thumbnail (2)Mr. George Carey Hester, age 88 of Carrollton, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017.

He was born November 29, 1928 in Heard County to the late Robert Pierce Hester and Ruth Estelle Crews Hester.

He was a Centralhatchee High School graduate and attended Georgia State University.

He was a man with many career outlets and shared his talents with many companies including those that he owned and operated: Sealtest Dairies, Foremost Dairies, Farmbest Dairies, Carrollton Dairies, Hester’s Used Cars, Pure Oil Service Station, Hester’s Army-Navy Store, Hester’s Car Wash, Hester’s Produce, Burnett Motors, Entennman Bakeries, Carrollton Farmer’s Market, Independent Life Insurance, and he and his wife operated Precious Memories Antiques.

He served his country in the United States Navy. He was an active member of Peachtree Baptist Church where he held many positions such as Deacon, Head Deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Ann Rogers Hester; and sister, Christine Shelnutt.

Survivors include his son and daughter in law, Steve and Marcia Hester of Carrollton; daughter and son in law, Cherie and Larry Rogers of Carrollton; grandchildren, Kevin Cooke (Crystal), Kelly Hester, Jordan Hester, Scoot Rogers (Jennifer) and Scott Rogers (Amanda); four great-grandchildren, Ella Kate Cooke, Sadie Charlotte Cooke, Reid Rogers and Wes Rogers; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Luther and Betty Rogers of Tallahassee, FL; sister-in-law, Sara Cutler of Charleston, SC; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Raymon and Janie Rogers of Rockledge, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the caregivers who cared for Mr. Hester during his time of illness: Pamela Combs, Danielle Combs, Alma Posey, Debi Watts and Sindy Gillenwater.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Doug Rogers and Rev. Jerome Mitchell officiating. His body will lie in state from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens with Rev. Damon Smith performing graveside services.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Cooke, Jordan Hester, Scott Rogers, Dr. Brian Rogers, Gerald Barnes, Danny Shelnutt, Frank Haddock, and Kevin Shuemake.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lance Rogers, Gary Herring, Kyle Daniel, Barry Munday, Jerome McDowell, and David Driver.

Flowers are welcome, but those desiring may make donations to Peachtree Baptist Church Building Fund at 106 Oakmont Ct., Carrollton, GA 30116.
