Mr. Hughlett “Sambo” Burden

Mr. Hughlett “Sambo” Burden, age 76, of Franklin passed away Friday October 5, 2018.

A memorial service for Sambo will be conducted Tuesday October 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Stutts Funeral Home with the Rev. Debbie Kendrick officiating.

The family will accept guests at the funeral home from 12:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Sambo was born April 25, 1942 in Heard County to the late Clifford Burden and Beannie Ware Burden. He was a member of Mt. Carrie Baptist Church, but attended many churches in the local area throughout the years.

He and Miss Mary Nell Burden were married for 55 years. To this union were born two children: Jennifer Lynn Burden Parks and Samuel Lee Burden.

He worked hard every day to see that the needs of his family were met. He was self-employed as a logger, a job he loved. He cut trees throughout Heard County and the surrounding area for many years.

He was a good and blessed man. He adored his family, and held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At home, he was the man of the house, and liked to boss everyone.

A man of the outdoors, he loved to fish and hunt rabbits. He especially enjoyed rabbit and gravy after a successful hunt.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Nell Burden of Franklin; daughter, Jennifer Lynn Parks (Andy) of Franklin; son, Samuel Lee Burden (Debbie) of Grantville; three grandchildren, Santron De’andra Burden (Jermonique), Jemeka Lyshae Jones (David), and Shemeka Tyshae Jones (Tevin); four great-grandchildren, JaLeah Smith, Kamryn De’andra Burden, Aeriana Faith Jones, and Aryah Marie Jones; a special nephew, Billy Joe Burden (Debra); special friends, George Slay, Jr., Johnny Beasley, Richard Broome, Richard Dennis, J. B. Freeman, and Charlie Henderson; and a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
