Mr. Wallace Breland Russell, Sr.

Mr. Wallace Breland Russell, Sr., age 75, of Franklin passed away September 7, 2021.

His funeral will be held Thursday September 9, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Stutts Funeral Home.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Thursday afternoon from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service.

Mr. Russell was born September 29, 1945 in Corpus Christi, TX to the late Roy Rogers Russell and Irene Breland Russell. He was a Baptist by faith.

He proudly served his country in the 173’rd Airborne Brigade (known as the Sky Soldiers). He entered the Army in January of 1964. He underwent basic training at Ft. Gordon, then Airborne training at Fort Benning. After a transfer to Okinawa, he was sent to South Vietnam in May 1965, among the first troops sent there for combat duty.

He served in Vietnam until November 1966. For his service he was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Citation, and Paratroopers Wings.

Locally he was awarded a Quilt of Valor by the Coweta County Quilts of Valor Chapter this year in honor of his service.

He worked as a sheet metal fabricator for Ralston Purina and retired after 33 years of dedicated service.

He was an active member of Loftin Lodge #688 F. & A. M. and a former member of Cascade Lodge #94. He served for more than 43 years and was past Master in both lodges. He was also appointed to several committees on the lodge and district level.

Hunting was among his favorite pastimes. He also loved to ride motorcycles.

He dearly loved his family, especially his wife, Karen, to whom he had been married 56 years.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Russell of Franklin; two sons, Wallace B. Russell, Jr. of Franklin and Roger Russell (Melanie) of Senoia; four grandchildren, Joshua Adams, Amber Sweat, Zephanee Maguire, and Logan Russell; three great-grandchildren, Layla, Kade, and Kyler; and a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Leila Sweat; a grandson, Jacob Turner; and a brother, J.M. Russell.
