Mrs. Alice Royal

Mrs. Alice Giles Royal, age 86, of Franklin passed away October 7, 2019.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday October 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. Her nephew, Rev. Ken Giles, will officiate.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Thursday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Royal was born July 16, 1933 in Atlanta to the late George Vester Giles and Margaret Kramer Giles. She was a Baptist by faith.

While living in Atlanta she worked for a few years in the Atlanta Police Department as a crossing guard. She was one of the first women employed in that capacity in Atlanta.

She was a loving wife of George Ashley Royal, Sr., who was a police officer. After his death she moved to Heard County in the 1990’s.

She loved the outdoors. She could hunt deer as well as any man in the area. She once killed a deer that placed her name on the Georgia state list for largest deer kills ever recorded. Her name is still there at number 7.

She also enjoyed gardening, and especially loved growing wildflowers in her yard. Visits from family and friends were very special times.

She was an independent woman, who was never afraid to speak her mind, and a dear friend, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors include one son, Michael Giles Royal (Mark Dexter) of Atlanta; three grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; one brother, George Giles (Maryann) of Marietta; and a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, George A. Royal, Jr., and a brother, Jack Giles.
