Mrs. Ernestine Miller

Mrs. Ernestine ObitBessie Ernestine Miller, age 97 of Franklin, died peacefully at her home, Saturday, March 25, 2017.

Mrs. Miller, born in Glenn, Ga. (Heard County) on November 16, 1919, was the daughter of the late Benjamin Tillman and Bessie Kitchens Adams.

She graduated from Heard County High School in 1937 and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville GA.

She married John Thomas Miller, another ’37 Heard High graduate, August 4, 1940. They had four sons, Benjamin Thomas Miller, John Wayne Miller, Joseph Hiram Miller and Harold Adams Miller.

Mrs. Miller was employed by Callaway Mills in LaGrange GA, and the Goodson Brothers Store and Kelly Carpet in Franklin and helped her husband in their poultry farm operation. She also worked at Mansour’s Department Store in LaGrange, where she retired after 23 years. She loved serving people and made many friends of her customers.

She was an active and devoted member of Franklin First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 20 years and where she was a long time member of the Woman’s Missionary Union. Mrs. Miller supported her church and its mission everyday by the way she ministered to people, strangers or friends.

It was no surprise to see Mrs. Ernestine coming to your door to visit and bring food. She also enjoyed going to the Heard County Senior Center for many years. She participated in many trips, meals and other programs offered there.

Mrs. Miller often gave thanks for her precious, precious family whom she cherished. What she loved most was cooking for them and having them “put their feet under her table one more time.” She provided Sunday dinner to family and guests until she was in her early nineties.

Her Christmas morning breakfast was everyone’s favorite Christmas tradition and with help, she did it every single year the family can remember.

She always prepared food when families were mourning a loved one and contributed  to countless covered dish dinners at Franklin First Baptist Church. For many years she made delicious and beautiful cakes for the public and a birthday cake for each family member on their birthday.

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years John Thomas Miller, son Joseph Hiram Miller, her sister and husband Joanne Adams and Emzy Nauert and her brothers and wives Tillman Cephas and Ruby Bonner Adams and Benjamin Oliver and Gaylene Gatlin Adams and her special sister-in-law, Harriett Imogene Bell.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-laws, Benjamin Thomas and Judy Miller, John Wayne and Carolyn Miller, Harold Adams and Cynthia Miller, grandchildren and spouses, Sherry Eileen and Kash Johnson, Tiffany Carolyn and Paul Mixon, Clinton Wayne Miller, Nathanael John Miller, David Robert Miller, Abigail Grace Miller and Hallie Elizabeth Miller and great-grandchildren Audrey Elizabeth and Sophie Eileen Johnson, Clinton Luke and Levi John Miller, Charles Paul II and John Pierre Mixon and Sullivan Daniel Miller.
