Mrs. Estelle Gray

Mrs. Estelle Pope Gray, age 94, of Franklin passed away Thursday December 6, 2018.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gray will be conducted Wednesday December 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Stutts Funeral Home with the Rev. Derrill Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon from 12:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Mrs. Gray was born February 29, 1924 in Akron, Ohio to the late Howard Heard Pope and Winnie Mae Lipham Pope. She was a Baptist by faith.

Prior to her retirement she worked as a payroll clerk for General Electric.

At home, her family was the focus of her life. She was the devoted wife of the late Horace Ovie Gray for 49 years. Neither of them left home without a goodbye kiss. She also devoted time to caring for her parents in their old age.

It was said that she was the world’s best Mother. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook the old fashioned way, and was especially well known for her biscuits and gravy.

She was also interested in history, and was a member of the Heard County Historical Society and the James Stewart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. When the Old Gulf Service Station on the square in Franklin was being renovated, she provided valuable information to aid in the restoration, as her father ran the same gas station many years ago.

Survivors include two sons, Norvel Gray and Mark Moxley both of Franklin; five grandchildren, Scott Gray, Bruce Moxley, Stacy Moxley Senn (Adam), Shane Moxley (Sabrina), and Rhett Moxley; four great-grandchildren, Zoey Senn, Naomi Senn, Levi Senn, and Jacob Moxley; one sister, Lily Andrews; one brother, Junior Pope; and a number of other relatives and friends.
