Mrs. Laura Lipham

Mrs. Laura Rose Shoemaker Lipham, age 94, of Franklin passed away Sunday December 24, 2017.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lipham will be conducted Wednesday December 27, 2017 at 2:00 PM from Salem Church with Dr. Don Jolly officiating. Her body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Lipham was born September 1, 1923 in Athens, Tennessee to the late Dave Blair Shoemaker and Marie Francoise Goraguer Shoemaker.

She joined Salem Church soon after her marriage to Thomas Alexander Lipham, Jr. in 1947 and remained a faithful member until her health began to fail. She was also a charter member of the Pilot Club of Heard County.

She graduated with a nursing degree from St. Josephs in Atlanta. She worked for over 30 years at the Heard County Health Department and forged lasting friendships with her fellow nurses. She was especially close to Mrs. Esther Stutts and Mrs. Fannie Walston.

She was an avid reader and remained active into her 80’s. She even cut her own grass until she could no longer. Despite losing her eyesight she always maintained a positive outlook on life.

Her father was in the US Navy during World War I, and met her mother while serving in France. Miss Laura was always proud of her French heritage. In 2000 she and Mrs. Esther Stutts went on a trip to France to see the homeland of her mother and visit the graves of her relatives.

Survivors include three sons, Dr. Mark Lipham (Ellen) of Carrollton, Dr. Luke Lipham (Suzanne) of Franklin, and Dr. Joe Lipham of Franklin; four grandchildren, Blair Lipham, Mark Lipham, Jr., David Lipham, and Andrew Lipham; one sister, Martha Hamrick of Powder Springs; and a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Alexander Lipham, Jr., a son, Thomas A. (Tom) Lipham, III, a sister, Marie Michelle Culberson, and a brother, David Henri Shoemaker.

    I wish someone had let me know. I would have been at the service. Miss Laura was a wonderful, kind, loving woman. She will be missed.
