Mrs. Mildred Turner

Mrs. Mildred Turner, age 90, of Roopville, Georgia passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at her residence.

She was born September 19, 1926 in Heard County, the daughter of the late Walter Smith and the late Melvina Garrett Smith.

She graduated from West Central Tech, having gone back to school in her 40’s. She earned her degree in nursing and retired as a LPN, having over twenty years of service in the medical field. She was a member of Roopville Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace “Peck” Turner; brothers Dent Smith, John Smith, and Max Smith; sisters Christine Cater and Mary Kidd; and half-brothers Carl Smith and Gaines Smith.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pat & Jimmy Horn of Roopville; son and daughter-in-law, Steve & Laneva Turner of McDonough; four grandchildren: Christy Sammon, Tracy Burns, Amanda Williams, and Kellie Simpson; 10 great-grandchildren: Steven Sammon, Daniel Sammon, Jackson Burns, Darby Burns, Reagan Burns, James Garrett Burns, Sadie Kate Williams, Baby Williams, Savannah Simpson, and Emily Simpson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Bro. Terry Harper and Rev. Neil Awbrey officiating.

Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens with Tom Sammon, Johnathan Burns, Jackson Burns, Michael Williams, David Simpson, Daniel Sammon and Jimmy Horn serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the hour of service.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions be made to Tanner Hospice.
