NSDAR Youth Citizenship Medal awarded to Heard County students

(Franklin, GA) — DAR Youth Citizenship medals are presented through the National Defense Committee of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).

The James Stewart Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is pleased to announce four winners of the DAR Youth Citizenship Medal, one eighth grade student and three fifth grade students.

The Medals and Award Certificates were presented at the schools’ Awards Programs by members of the James Stewart Chapter NSDAR.

The eighth grade winner selected at Heard County Middle School was Jasmine Aquino.

The three fifth grade winners were Justin Free from Centralhatchee Elementary, Elizabeth Flemming from Ephesus Elementary, and Abigail Coggin from Heard County Elementary.

Awarding this medal is a wonderful way for us to recognize outstanding young people who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools and communities.

The student selected for the school’s DAR Youth Citizenship Medal must display the following qualities: Honor – honesty, high principles, trustworthiness, loyalty, truthfulness, punctuality, moral strength and stability, cleanliness in mind and body; Service – cooperation, meritorious behavior bringing honor to school or community, kindliness, unselfishness, true Americanism, individual responsibility to God, Home, and Country; Courage – mental and physical determination to overcome obstacles; Leadership – personality, originality, ability to lead others, good sportsmanship, responsibility; and Patriotism –  fundamental Americanism.

Each of these students was selected by their teachers as the student who best displays these qualities.

The James Stewart Chapter NSDAR was pleased to be able to honor each winner with a certificate and medal.
