(Franklin) — Senior Heard County Brave Nate Meadows became the first golfer in school history to sign a golf scholarship last week.

Meadows had a host of family and friends on hand as he signed with the Point University Skyhawks on Wednesday, May 20 at HHS. Brave golf Coach D.J. Curbow was very proud of Meadows and his big accomplishment.

“Nate has unlimited potential — is a hard worker — and was a pleasure to coach,” said Curbow. “I can’t wait to see what he can do in the future when he is coached by a college coach.”

Point University golf coach Steven Paine was on hand for the signing along in addition to Nate’s parents Brian and Katie Meadows and other Braves officials.

The 2-handicap golfer is ready to move on to college and proud to be the first Heard golfer to play at the next level.

“I think it’s pretty cool to make history at Heard County,” said Meadows this week.

“I’d really like to thank my mom for being my biggest fan — and my dad for introducing me to the game of golf — and for always supplying me with what I need and always pushing me to be my best — I didn’t always realize the potential I had but they did and they never let me give up.”

Point University is a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference which features schools from Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia.

Nate is also thankful for the help of Coach Curbow during his senior season.

“Coach Curbow was a big inspiration this year,” Meadows stated.”He always pushed us to try our best, and he was always there for us with anything we needed — on and off the course.”

Nate graduated with the Class of 2015 Friday night at Staples Stadium.
