(Warner Robins, GA) — The competition was fierce in Warner Robins August 18-20 for the 2017 Special Olympics Masters Bowling Tournament.

The annual event featured over a thousand athletes, and more than 200 coaches and 300 volunteers.

Local masters competitor Dennis Shaw brought home a Silver Medal at the event.

The tournament was held at Gold Cup Lanes and Robins Lanes.

David Crawford with Georgia Special Olympics says this tournament is a chance for the athletes to get out and have some fun while making new friends in the process.

“Special Olympics is to provide individuals with intellectual disabilities the same opportunities that people that do not have disabilities have,” says Crawford.

“We’re a sports organization that provides that throughout the year. They train, they compete all throughout the year, so it’s a great opportunity for individuals who might not have that opportunity in everyday life to come together and enjoy sports and competition, and make new friends.”

Crawford says the Masters Bowling Tournament will return to Warner Robins in 2018.
