At last week’s sectionals he defeated Quinton Tuggle from Monticello in the quarters before falling to eventual sectional champion junior Tyler Snowden (40-4) from Social Circle in the semis. Jackson bounced back to defeat Chayton Tuck (36-9) from Oglethorpe County in the third place match. In Thursday morning’s opening round, Jackson will meet sophomore Travis Pelfrey (15-17) from Coosa High School.

Gage Cannon (Senior — 145 pounds, 32-6)

Cannon this season surpassed his coach Kyle Yates for all time career wins with 124. Cannon will also be aiming to become the first wrestler in school history to place at the State Championships three times. At sectionals, he defeated Marty Bailey from Elbert County in the quarters Friday night before Bailey returned the favor knocking off Cannon in the third place match. Cannon’s semifinal loss came to undefeated sectional champion senior Gabriel Peryam (48-0) from Elbert County. He will take on sophomore Joe Wallace (38-22) from Model in the opening round Thursday morning.

Wyn Denney (Junior — 182 pounds, 28-10)

Denney had the strongest finish at sectionals defeating a sophomore from Social Circle and a one loss wrestler from Hephzibah High in the semifinals before falling on points 10-6 in Saturday’s sectional championship versus senior B.J. Bradford (46-1) from Elbert County who finished as state runner-up in 2018. Denney is making his second trip to the state meet and looking for his first medal after advancing as a freshman in 2017. Denney has earned a bye in Thursday morning’s first round and will face either Callaway junior Anthony Elliot (29-7) or Bacon County senior TJ Hamm (15-7) in Thursday afternoon’s quarterfinals.

Logan Moran (Senior — 285 pounds, 32-6)

Moran earned his third straight trip to the State Finals where he will look to follow-up on his sixth place medal finish from 2018. Moran (257 pounds actual weight) competed in the heavyweight class at sectionals and earned a solid third place finish defeating Demetrius Boyd from Screven County in the quarters before falling to Qwen Moss from Early County in the semifinals. He bounced back to pin Ean Dunkle from Harlem in the third place match. Moran will battle with Vidalia sophomore Jaylin Burns (44-20) in Thursday morning’s first round.
