‘Tank’ Wins a Title

(Atlanta, GA) — A young Heard County athlete enjoyed an exciting experience last weekend after he was nominated to compete in a national youth football tournament that culminated with his team winning a championship.

Lucas “Tank” McCormick

10-year-old Lucas “Tank” McCormick was nominated for the event through his travel football program the West Georgia Extreme.

He played both center and defensive tackle for the 10U Georgia South squad that won two out of of three games to become D1 Nation All-American Bowl Champions.

After dropping their first game 14-0 to the Elite Long Island team from New York, Tank’s squad battled back to defeat Team South Carolina All-State 25-0 and Team Florida 25-0 to earn the big title.

The games were played at three different locations in the metro Atlanta area including Dacula, Lawrenceville, and Suwanee and the boys each received a championship ring.

Tank is a 5th grade student at Ephesus Elementary School.

Next season Tank will play for either Heard County Middle School or the Heard County Parks and Recreation Department 12U team and this summer he will be participating in the Braves’ off-season workout program at HCMS.

According to its website, D1Nation began with an idea to find ways to promote youth athletes and provide exposure opportunities.
