Three arrested on Drug Trafficking Charges

(Franklin, GA) — Three Troup County people were arrested on Drug Trafficking and charges in Heard County last week.

22-year-old Patrick Tyler Smith, 20-year-old Selena Maria Childers, and 19-year-old Enrique Manuel Swanger were each arrested during the afternoon hours on September 27 when a Heard County investigator found them in possession of a stolen car.

According to a report by investigator Lt. Deborah Williamson  of the Heard County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged suspects were discovered after the HCSO responded to an unrelated call in the Thompson Road area.

After running the plates on the vehicle occupied by the trio and two small children, it was determined that the car (a 2008 Lexus) had been reported stolen recently from a car lot in Grantville, GA.

Upon further investigation, the group was found to be in possession of an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine and firearms.

All three remaining in the Heard County jail and each are facing charges of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Cruelty to Children (2 cts), Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon and Drug Trafficking.

Drug trafficking refers to the manufacture, distribution, delivery, sale, or possession of large amounts of a controlled substance. Georgia drug trafficking laws apply federal mandatory minimum penalties for trafficking offenses and as a result those convicted may face substantial fines and lengthy prison sentences.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is handling the Drug Trafficking charges and the investigation is ongoing.
