(Milledgeville, GA) — A local basketball player and former Lady Brave reached a collegiate milestone recently when she scored her 1000th career point.

Reece Walker, a senior with the Georgia College Bobcats, made the milestone basket during a 57-54 road victory at Young Harris College on Wednesday, January 25. She is only the 14th player in Bobcat women’s basketball history to reach the lofty mark.

Walker is also one of the all-time scoring leaders at HHS, having reached the 1000 point mark in just three seasons with the Lady Braves. She was a big part of the Lady Braves run to the Elite 8 at state in 2012.

Walker says she wasn’t even aware of the impending collegiate milestone until an article was published in early January, but she is very excited about the accomplishment and has enjoyed every moment in the Bobcats program.

“Being a Bobcat here at Georgia College has been nothing but amazing! Everyone here was so welcoming,” says Walker. “I definitely want to give thanks to all of my teammates and coaches starting from my freshmen year for believing in me and for pushing me to be the best that I could be. The atmosphere here is great, and I wouldn’t have wanted to go through the ups and downs of my four years anywhere else! I am Beyond blessed!”

Walker is studying business management at GC and hopes to soon gain acceptance into the school’s graduate program. She says there have been many great moments during her career but nothing compares to fighting for a conference championship.

“The most memorable moment for me as a Bobcat was going to the Conference Championship as a freshmen,” Walker says. “Yeah it was scary, but it’s one of my favorite times because it taught me a lot about myself as a player and then going back to the championship my sophomore year and coming up short both times is a feeling I will never forget. As a senior now, I know what it will take to get there to be that championship team.”

Reece still follows her old high school squad, although her schedule obviously makes attending games difficult. Her favorite Lady Brave is her cousin Sage Kelley — currently the junior point guard for the Lady Braves. Her favorite professional athlete is basketball star Maya Moore.

The Bobcats have eight games remaining in the regular season including Senior Day versus Young Harris on Saturday, February 11 at 1:30 PM.
