Yates Insurance Fraud case continued to November

(Franklin, GA) — The felony insurance fraud case against former Franklin Mayor Brad Yates appears to be moving closer to a settlement following his appearance in Heard County Superior Court today.

Yates and his defense attorney, Stuart Mones, appeared before Judge Dennis T. Blackmon Tuesday morning for a Calendar Call.

Mones told Judge Blackmon that his client and the State of Georgia are working towards a deal involving restitution and asked for a continuance to a later court date.

After no objections, Judge Blackmon continued the case to another Calendar Call in Superior Court on November 13, 2019.

In the event a settlement or plea is not reached by that time, Judge Blackmon also added the case to the Criminal Court Jury Trial calendar for December 2, 2019.

“It sounds like y’all are just trying to work out the money,” said the Judge.

Yates was arrested on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, and initially charged with 32 counts of felony Insurance Fraud along with one felony count of False Statements to a State Law Enforcement Agency.

The investigation was conducted by the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation’s Enforcement Division that led to the arrest.
